Question by minimaan5698: Traditional Health Care Versus Alternative Health care?
hey guys i have a assignment discussing the Advantages and disadvantages of traditional health care and alternative health care which one is better and why? Please Help me

Best answer:

Answer by GypsyGr-ranny
By traditional, I’m assuming you mean allopathic or Western medicine using drug therapy.

My understanding is allopathic medicine treas the body mechanically–as if it were a clock–parts, using drug therapy and surgery; whereas alternative or wholistic health care treats the body as a complete organizm; so that, what is good for one part of the body is good for the whole body, using food as medicine and medicine as food (as the father of medicine, Hypocrates taught), and nutritional supplements.

Alternative therapies can include accupuncture, herbal therapy, massage and other approaches. Can, also, include TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).

Question by minimaan5698: Traditional Health Care Versus Alternative Health?
hey guys i have a assignment discussing the Advantages and disadvantages of traditional health care and alternative health care which one is better and why? Please Help me

Best answer:

Answer by Pangolin
Traditional health care uses treatments that are scrutinized using the scientific method, whereas alternative therapies rarely are.

If you are prescribed a drug by a doctor, that drug has undergone a lot of testing to show that (1) it works and (2) it isn’t too dangerous (although all drugs have side effects) In addition, pharmaceutical companies are monitored so that you can be sure what is supposed to be in the drug is actually there, and in the amount specified.

Herbal therapies rarely undergo any testing, and the purported benefits are anecdotal. Ever heard of the placebo effect? Granted, a lot of herbs DO have medicinal properties, but when used as “supplements”, they are not subjected to the same tight standards that pharmaceutical products are. Studies have shown that some herbal preparations contain less than half of what they are supposed to have, while others had many times the alleged amount.

With regard to the more bizarre alternative therapies, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that ear candling or cupping isn’t going to cure anything. It might make you “feel better” (again, refer to placebo effect), but there is no science behind it.

Science is why traditional medicine keeps changing. We are constantly learning new things, and adjusting our practice accordingly.

The post office and Fedex co-exist and they satisfy different needs for different section of the population and business community. In addition to Medicare, VA and private health insurance (possibly reformed), a public health care option would help meet the different needs and pockets of America.

Best answer:

Answer by curtisports2
Because the goal is to have the public option as the ONLY option. There will BE no alternatives, if the lefties get their way.

I am writing a paper for my Sociology class and it got me thinking. I know that there are religions and cultures that chose not to participate in modern medicine or practice alternative medicine. I was wondering if anyone could tell me which religions and/or cultures have limits and restrictions and what they are. Please and thank you for helping feed my curiosity.

Answer by Randy
Jehovah’s Witnesses won’t give or accept blood, because accepting a transfusion is virtually the same as eating blood, whis is banned in the OT. Christian Scientists believe in the miraculous power of prayer and sometimes must be forced by a court to let their children be treated with modern methods.

One answerer proposed lowering health care costs. How can this be done while keeping jobs, maintaining the same standard of care etc. Isn’t the cost comprised of salaries, insurance, supplies, procedures, maintenance, utilities etc etc? How could we shave off costs as an alternative. Thanks.
I am not talking about the Bill. I am talking about an alternative to the bill. An opponent of the bill stated to “lower health care costs.” How can this be done without losing jobs etc etc. (what I previously stated).

Question by BUNKY: who is the best low cost alternative to cobra health insurance in Pennsylvania?

Best answer:

Answer by ehealthinc
If COBRA coverage is too pricey for you, you may have some affordable options. It depends primarily on your age and how healthy you are. If you have a pre-existing medical condition then COBRA really may be your best option, since you may be turned down elsewhere. But if you’re relatively healthy then you should be able to find an individual or family health insurance plan that will cost you significantly less than COBRA.

It’s hard to make a specific recommendation without more information. What kind of coverage is important to you? Do you visit the doctor frequently? Then you may want a plan with a lower deductible and copayments, even if you pay more for a monthly premium. If you don’t visit the doctor frequently at all and you’re not on prescription drugs, then you may want to consider a higher deductible plan that may cost less on a monthly basis. You’ll pay out of pocket for more things, but you’ll still have a valuable layer of protection in case of an unexpected injury or hospitalization. Also – Do you expect to have employer coverage again within six months? Then you may actually prefer a short-term health insurance plan.

I’d recommend that you talk with a licensed agent who represents multiple insurance companies in your area. It doesn’t cost anything extra and it can provide you with a broader view of the options available. To check out your options for yourself, you could also visit a licensed online agency, like eHealthInsurance.com – where I work. Through our site, for example, you can get free quotes and compare plans side by side to find the best match for your needs. We also have a website dedicated to educating consumers about their COBRA options. Check it out at cobralearning.com.

Hope that helps. Good luck,

tort reform could bring down costs slightly, but it wouldnt help with anything else, including insuring more people. its a small part of what needs to be done
